Media Alert: Aperto Networks and TowerStream to Provide Commercially- Available 2nd-Generation Broadband Wireless Access at WCA 2002  

Milpitas, Calif. and Newport, RI, (June 18, 2002) – Aperto Networks, a leading provider of next generation point-to-multipoint broadband wireless access systems, and TowerStream, the leading fixed wireless broadband provider in the Northeast United States, announced today that they will provide broadband access to the Wireless Communications Association (WCA) 2002 Conference at the World Trade Center in Boston from June 24-27, 2002.  

TowerStream service covers the Boston Metropolitan area and is delivered using Aperto PacketWave® 1000 base stations. This network, which includes the Prudential Tower on Boylston Street, currently serves over a hundred business customers in the heart of Boston.  

With Aperto PacketWave 100 subscriber units at the World Trade Center on Seaport Boulevard, the TowerStream network will enable show attendees to experience several applications, including:  

  • High Speed Internet Access
  • Wireless (IEEE 802.11/ Wi-Fi) Hot Spot Backhaul
  • Voice over IP (using Vonage DigitalVoice Service and Cisco ATA)
  • Video Conferencing over IP
  • Streaming Video
  • Multiple Traffic Flows with differentiated service classes based on application

Free broadband access will be provided at two Wireless Hot Spot locations at WCA:  

  1. Aperto Networks Booth #532 and surrounding area
  2. WCA Speaker Session Rooms - Cityview I & II

Show attendees are invited to use the free broadband wireless access service using their WiFi equipped laptop computers for the duration of the WCA show. In addition, calls can be made to any location in the United States using VoIP services from telephones provided in the Aperto booth, to experience multi-services over the Towerstream network.  

Other equipment and applications in Aperto’s booth include complete solutions for 2.5 GHz, 3.5 GHz, 5 GHz frequency bands, as well as subscriber provisioning and web-based management tools.  

Organized by the Wireless Communications Association, the 15th annual business conference and exhibition, http://www.wcai.com/events.htm, is scheduled from June 24 to 27, at the World Trade Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Exhibit Hours: Tuesday, June 25 from 1:30pm to 6:30pm and Wednesday, June 26 from 12pm to 5:30pm.
